Doug Miller

CHARLES DOUGLAS MILLER Dec. 30, 1946 – July 18, 2021

Charles Douglas Miller was born Dec. 30, 1946 in Dallas, Texas and passed away suddenly July 18, 2021 while on vacation with his family in Pagosa, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Alma Miller and his son-in-law Anthony Ortega.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jan Fite Miller; their children: Melissa Fox and her husband Andy, Julie Keeler and her husband Tony, Sara Miller and her husband Yash Chathampally, Allison Ortega, and Christine Minshew and her husband Waylon; grandchildren: Nolan Fox, Reanne Keeler, Ryan Guenther, Cottrell Fox, Madison Keeler, Alex Ortega, Austin Keeler, Margaret Grasser, Barrett Grasser, Aiden Ortega, Ethan Fox, Aric Ortega, Edie Minshew, Evelyn Minshew, Adi and Kat Chathampally, Emerson Minshew, and Elliot Minshew; and his only sister Carolyn Kindel and her family.

Doug was pretty much the epitome of “The Quiet Man”. He loved his family and worked to create a secure environment for them. Doug’s determination was manifested in his dedication to his education, spending 21 years in pursuit of his Masters in Business Administration from Santa Fe College, completed as he worked 12 years at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

He was honest to a fault (sometimes you didn’t want to hear it), funny with a quick wit, loved telling jokes, loved to travel, burnt bacon and having his buns toasted. Until his health began to fail – he was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved playing golf. Doug loved The Dallas Cowboys and hated wearing a suit. He was incredibly generous, but also incredibly thrifty. His love was quiet, simple, and profoundly deep for those blessed to receive it.

He will be deeply missed though we are grateful that he is now without pain and at peace with the Father.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 501 S Third St, Mabank, TX 75147 on Saturday July 24th at 2pm If so moved, donations to the following organizations will be appreciated: Parkinson’s Foundation (https://www.parkinson.org/), Michael J Fox Foundation (https://www.michaeljfox.org/), American Diabetes Association (https://donations.diabetes.org/), First Methodist Church-Mabank (https://www.fumcmabank.com/serve/serve-through-giving/), or Judge Fite Charitable Foundation (https://century21judgefite.com/about/philanthropy/judge-fite-charitable-foundation/).

Wow Doug, we went way back together and knowing you are no longer with us really saddens me.    Will hang on to those "little kid" memories where you were always a strong steady force for all of us.  Elaine Smith Sichter

Doug lived down the street from me.  Stayed with he and his sister while our parents were at work.  So sorry to hear about his passing.
