JANINE-NELSON Janine Williams Nelson was born in Dallas, Texas on December 18, 1946. She departed her loving family, many relatives and multitudes of friends on her journey to Heaven on October 24, 2021. Janine married the love of her life on January 16, 1970.

An ambassador to everyone she met of love, friendliness and all around goodwill, Janine was the consummate mother, homemaker, wife and friend. The list of her talents is endless and she mastered each and every one of them. She was a superb cook and baker, renowned for her tantalizing soups and gorgeous pies, and also highly skilled at smoking and barbecuing. Her smoked turkey and unforgettable smoked pork ribs will be sorely missed. July 4th will never be the same.

Janine’s artistic and craft skills are legendary, and included stained glass, calligraphy, painting, quilting, sewing, tatting, knitting, holiday and special occasion wreathes, homecoming mums and other crafts too numerous to mention.

Janine was a member of the Lone Star Miata Club and would’ve marked her 25th year in February as the most senior member of the club. She served in many capacities, most notably as membership officer for over 18 years. She participated in numerous events such as Miata World I and II, and won numerous awards for her “Dragonfly,” a customized 2003 Splash Green Model NB Miata. She owned two Miatas and clocked over one half million miles of zooming.

Janine was well-known for her gardening and horticulture skills. Everyone enjoyed visiting her back yard with over 35 plumerias – some of them over 30 years old. She had many other plants in hanging baskets and in her flower gardens. She planted over 300 caladiums in her front yard every year for the neighborhood to enjoy.

Besides being a wonderful, loving and devoted wife and mother to her own family, her greatest skill and accomplishment was being a mother to every child she met and a friend to everyone. Her entire neighborhood was her extended family whom all got to know her from walking Sweet Pea, her little white papillion-poodle mix, twice a day all over the neighborhood. There are children of all ages – many of whom are now adults with children of their own – who have considered Janine their “mom” throughout their school years and beyond. She was a grandmother to many more and recently, an “adopted” great grandmother as well. Janine was predeceased by her beloved mother, Ruth Williams and sister-in-law, Annette Williams.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Craig F. Nelson, father Billy J. Williams, brother Bill Williams, daughter Noelle and husband Reed Kowzer, daughter Nicole and husband August Guzman, nephew Scott Witty and niece Courtney Williams. Janine also is survived by three grandchildren, Kai Wadley, Autumn Nelson and Chloe Guzman, and two grandchildren by marriage, Daniel Kowzer and Katelyn Kowzer. She also is survived by many relatives, neighbors and countless friends across the country and around the world, and the many children who have considered her their second mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
