Classmates in Memory

Don Cranford

Don passed away yesterday, May 6, 2019 in an unfortunate drowning accident. 

Don was born February 19, 1947 in Dallas, TX to Vernon Lee and Clara Mae Haverkorn Cranford and died May 6, 2019 in Quitman.  He was a retired civil engineer working for the City of Dallas 24 years, Dallas County 12 years, and for the Texas Department of Transportation 5 years.  Don earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and was a registered Professional Engineer.  He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas, was an Eagle Scout, and loved to fish, hunt, and build things.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Corbin Thompson, Logan Seals, Hadley Seals, Connor Hargrove, Mason Hargrove, Hunter Romer, and Jordan Verastique.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rebecca Jean Cranford; and brother-in-law, Willis Dingess, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Marsha Elaine Cranford, of Pine Mills; daughter Catherine Denise Cranford and spouse Andrea of Poplarville, MS; step-daughters Melanie Thompson of Flower Mound and Michelle Hargrove and fiancé Eric Burisky of Grapevine; step son, Russ Seals and wife Karen of Grapevine; sister Barbara Ruth “Bobbie” Dingess of Richardson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Alma and Ronald Montgomery of Hot Springs, AR; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Don was indeed a nice man.  Accidents are also so hard on the families.  Do pray for them.

So sad to hear of Don's passing.
Don was a great friend in high school and college.Don was the captain of our rifle team at Sunset and at Arlington State College.
He was a great leader and friend. My condolences to his family.
